I. Solving Linear Systems by Graphing: A basic teaching approach

A) Provide a clear introduction to what a linear system is by providing a real world example of a system. Then do a skill and drill routine through slope intercept, standard form, and special cases. I've provided an example of my powerpoint slides for the lesson. You may download it and print it out to view along with the commentary provided in the example vid.

The video below provides a slide by slide commentary starting from the 3rd slide of the above power point presentation. This explains my approach to introducing systems of equations. Move your mouse cursor off the video screen once you hit play to view the video without the controls.

B) Use practical problems to reinforce the concept of what a system of equations is, and use technology to solve system. You can download the lesson plan below to get an idea of what you can for reinforcement.

Additional practical problems that help students understand systems

C) Reinforce classroom instruction with video

I use a similar approaches to the ones in the videos here. You may want to provide students with the link to these videos for additional reinforcement at home.

Encourage students to check their work using the TI-84. Play the following video for an example of good calculator usage.
